Succulents

As with any small space the garden needs to be designed to be viewed from the house as well as from inside the different elements created.   We were fortunate that the existing levels of the garden allowed us to create what is essentially a sunken garden with plenty of wide, generous in-built seating and privacy that invites you to venture into the space.  The in-built bbq adds a further luxurious dimension and accentuates the entertaining angle.  As with all design the balance of materials is important and here we have taken the edge off the surrounding timber screens with a simple lime wash.  This could otherwise have created a slightly oppressive feeling but instead has made the space light and airy.  Perhaps the best feature however, is the succulent planting running through the decking in various places.  This works really well and adds another contemporary twist that compliments the rendered planter and bbq. Stainless steel lighting completes the scheme and provides a warm glow at night that makes the garden a true 24 hour space.
