Mediterranean inspired garden
Working within the existing
framework of this much loved family garden the brief was to bring the space up
to date incorporating a new pottery studio, seating areas, lots of colour and planting
and features. The spacious open design uses the geometry of angles to
create a very strong ground plan that offers a different experience from almost
every part of the garden. A covered seating area with in-built seating
and large water feature at the house end encourages the family to spill out
into the garden at every opportunity.
A sandstone path leads away from the main terrace linking the garden areas together following the lines of the retaining walls. It winds out of site towards the upper lawn area inviting exploration and you are rewarded with a secluded bench area surrounded by abundant native planting. The secret to the success of the planting is in the soil preparation and the sub surface irrigation that have meant all the plants have flourished. The hedge of Kangaroo paws creates an eye catching swathe of colour though the garden that is echoed through the remaining planting areas. The garden is highly successful on many levels and is a testament to the client for backing up all the ideas presented with such enthusiasm. It was a real pleasure to design and install this wonderful garden.
